W e l c o m e  t o  Jim Moodie's  w e b  s i t e

A couple of dozen Moodie questions.

Worst crash----1987 TZ250. I caught my leg on a straw bale, dislocating my pelvis, ripped groin, bladder and stomach. It took me two years to fully recover from that, although I raced at the end of that season.

Broken Bones -----Too many, easier to ask what bones I've not broke. Ankles, toes, foot, hands, wrists, all fingers and thumbs, collar bones, shoulder blade, pelvis, vertebrae, arm, ribs and more.

Top Riders at world level----Obviously Rossi now……Doohan in his day…….Spencer in his.

Top Riders UK----The late Steve Hislop, on his day for sure. Niall Mackenzie, Niall was world class as well, but he wasn't just on the level as say Doohan, but he was still world class. John Reynolds and Neil Hodgson.

Who could have made it and didn't---Me, If my racing finishes I will be 100% satisfied with what I've done. I honestly believe if I had started younger, was picked up earlier and on occasions not went down the wrong road, I could have gone an awful lot further.

Best Bike----the 1999 Honda RC45……Not the one I used for the TT lap record, the full factory bike I used at the Bol d'or, it was 20 BHP up on the IOM bike.  Jacks (V&M) R1 was probably the most powerful bike I've ridden, the one I rode at Kirkistown and the 2002 TT.

Best moment in racing----Probably leading the 2000 Brands round of the World Supersport Championships.

Worst moment----The IOM TT when Mark Farmer was killed, it shook me big time as it was the first time I really had a close friend killed.

Explain the Mad Dog label----In my early days, I was at times over focused.

Explain the #21----It just came about, in fact in my early LC days it was 121, but after a while it was 21 and Ian Simpson was 22, so we continued with that until this day.

Biggest challenge outside racing----Helicopter pilot, without any doubt.

Biggest challenge inside racing----Ongoing all the time.

What annoys you most-----People who don't return calls and unpunctuality.

How often do you train.----Every day. Sometimes I'll have a Monday off after a race meeting.

How fit are you----Super fit. ? More than a professional football player----by far.

Heart beats per minute at rest, BPM----Low forties.

Best team you've worked with. V&M and Philip McCallen.

Regrets----Not having the money and the backing as soon as I left school. From the minute I could think about doing anything, I wanted to race.

What do you think the future holds for the TT. I think it will slowly dwindle away, say over the next ten or so years. Race dates are beginning to clash at the moment.

What about Moodie and the TT----Not now, but I would have liked to get to 11 wins the same as Stevie. 8 is good but with 11 your beginning to get into the all time greats. Still that's not going to happen now.

If you had a choice, what team would you like to ride for----World championships with Belgarda Yamaha, Ten Kate Honda or V&M.

Choice, WSB or GPs----GP1 now. It used to be WSB, but things don't look that good there.

Choice, two or four stroke----four stroke.

What does the future hold----I'm still competitive and I didn't like being out of racing (2001) especially when you know you can beat most people.    Home page
