In the Quads Jim was up against the likes of Alistair McRae, John Crawford, Mark Higgins, Brian Morrison, Mathew Wilson and Robbie Head……Jim, who only a couple of weeks before injured his elbow, was the man to beat.
Jim showed a clean pair of heals in Saturdays outings and it prompted some action from McRae and Crawford who by accident just happened to put a little too much air into Jim's tyres come Sunday. Earlier in the day Steve Colley broke his wrist while doing some spectacular trial demonstrations, prompting the two Inexperienced apprentice tyre fitters to come clean in case Jim furthered his injured elbow. Everyone was having a good laugh especially when no one really noticed the tyres were rock hard besides being considerably larger and looking like they were ready to explode.
Tyres sorted, they lined up for the first Sunday run and Jim was off like a scalded cat passing Crawford for the lead round the first long left hander, thereafter keeping a safe distance for the four lap dash. The second race saw Jim relegated to the back of the field and any hope of a repeat performance was dashed when a puncture brought Jim's day to a premature end. Is Jim still competitive……..you better believe it.
